Welcomoe back to part two of today’s wedding celebration of simple elegance! Ruta and Erik wed in an elegant, intimate northern Virginia wedding at Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant, where they also celebrated their reception. If you missed a minute of their tented “I do’s,” be sure to check out all the sweet moments here. The white wedding color palette continued from their wedding ceremony to reception, with touches of blue in the details – like on the ribbon of the favors. But, it wasn’t the color palette that made Ruta and Erik’s wedding so memorable. Everything about their big day was personal to the couple, right down to the place where their wedding cake a favors came from. This bride and groom went to their favorite local spot to help celebrate their union with sweets! We love it when couples incorporate their everyday lives into their big wedding day – just like this! They splurged on what was important to them and saved where they could (like going to Costco for some of their wedding floral and decor!). Layered on top of all of these personal touches were creative wedding ideas such as a fingerprint tree guest book and monogrammed glassware to make their wedding day decor complete. Simple, chic, and sophisticated – I call that stunning! A big thanks to their Washington DC area wedding photographer, Lelia Marie Photography, for sharing Ruta and Erik’s wonderful white wedding with us!
From the bride: We decided to skip on a wedding planner. Since our wedding was local in the Washington DC area, most of the wedding details and vendors we arranged ourselves with the help from Erik’s parents and our friends. Also, the catering manager the at Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant was so extremely helpful during the wedding planning process and the day of the wedding that we did not feel any need for a wedding planner.
We also decided to opt out of the traditional wedding guest book and created our own wedding fingerprint tree for our wedding guests to “leaf a print and sign their name.”
We also decided to save money on wedding reception flowers. We ordered bulk flowers for our centerpieces and sunken garden themed décor from Costco. We went with white hydrangeas, white roses and green fillers. Our friends from Nantucket Island, the owners of Sunshine Gardening, Inc., designed our flower arrangements. We also ordered white rose bridal and maid of honor bouquets, boutonnières and corsages from Costco.
At least two or three times a month Erik and I go to get our brunch at a cozy French-inspired bakery in Georgetown called Patisserie Poupon. Having enjoyed their delicious pastries in the past, we knew that Patisserie Poupon would be the place where we going to get our wedding cake. We decided to go with their Praline cake, a crunchy almond meringue and yellow cake layered with hazelnut butter cream. Patisserie Poupon was also where we ordered our pistachio flavored macaroon wedding favors. The bakery took care of the wedding favor boxes, ribbons and placed our wedding tags on each one per our instructions.
Advice from the bride for other Washington DC area couples:
Keep the wedding simple! It is your most special day together. You want the experience leading up to this special day to help your relationship grow closer. Wedding details are important, however the most important aspect of the wedding planning process is to not lose perspective of what matters the most, which is the celebration of your love and sharing your wedding experience with your friends and families.
Congratulations to Ruta and Erik! Thank you for sharing your traditional white wedding reception in Virginia with us!
