Good morning, Washington DC area wedding lovers! Julia and Ben wed in Washington DC in part because of the personal connection they had to a very special wedding ceremony location, Augustana Lutheran Church – the bride and groom met in DC and this is their local parish. So, their friends and family traveled and gathered to witness their church wedding surrounded by blooming cherry blossom trees and pops of pretty pink and navy blue. With the help of DC wedding planner Roberts & Co. Events, everything was as the couple had dreamed and more! From the DC themed wedding details to the personal touches, like a blue handkerchief made from one of Julia’s childhood dresses, everything at their wedding had meaning and connection to the couple and the surrounding area. And after the knot was tied, guests traveled to the Potomac View Terrace for a grand reception, complete with breathtaking views of the the DC skyline and the National Mall (stay tuned – that’s next!). A special thanks to Amber Reinink Photography for sharing Julia and Ben’s beautiful Washington DC wedding photos with us!

From the bride: We decided to get married in Washington DC because this is where we met and where we live and we wanted to get married in the church that we go to together, but neither of us is from here. As a result, we had a lot of friends and family coming from out of town, and we wanted to introduce them to our neighborhood and our city. Our wedding ended up being sort of DC themed, from cherry blossoms as the flowers and the decorations on the cake to picking a reception venue on the Mall and putting the skyline on our napkins and menus.

My something blue was a light blue handkerchief that my mother made out of the scraps from a blue Easter dress she had handmade for me when I was little (around 3 years old I think). She sewed lace around the edges and embroidered it with flowers. She has the picture of me in that dress up at my parents house, and she said to her I’d always be the little girl in the blue dress.

We also had Mary Belcher, a local watercolor artist in DC whom we love, paint a map of our wedding that showed the location of all of the wedding events and where we lived. We used copies of it in the guest bags in the hotel and have the original hanging in our home.
