Welcome back to part two of today’s featured wedding in Washington DC. Mike and Torey wed in-the-round at the regal Carnegie Institution for Science in downtown Washington DC, where they also held their reception. If you missed even a moment of their special DC ceremony, be sure to check it out here. Once their knot was tied, DC wedding planners Candy+Co, helped Mike and Torey create a very personal wedding reception, complete with custom-made illustrations of the grooms on the escort card map and table numbers! While the illustrations might have been a playful and fun touch, the rest of their wedding reception was elegant and beautiful with pops of purple at every turn to compliment the grooms’ looks in grey with purple accents. A blend of modern in the decor and almost an old world feeling in the venue space, Mike and Torey’s big day is both romantic and masculine – the perfect pair for this perfect pair! A special thanks to Emily Clack Photography for sharing Mike and Torey’s beautiful Washington DC wedding photos with us!
From the grooms: Our wedding day vision was simple. As two grooms, we wanted a clean and modern aesthetic that felt masculine. Except for our centerpieces, we avoided any unnecessary florals or frill. We love the color purple, but our color palette also included lavender and a light green to create some variety. We followed and featured many traditions we loved about other weddings we’ve attended over the years, but in many ways we made our wedding ceremony and reception unique to us with personalized touches and a few DIY projects.
Both very busy with our careers, Candy+Co. made wedding planning so much easier. Little Bird Creative helped us develop our many ideas for our wedding invitations into a personalized design. Our caterer Spilled Milk was superb in both its culinary creations and customer service. Our florist Mary Jane Tropea with LeRoy French was adaptable, knowledgeable and created stunning centerpieces. Emily Clack is a talented and thoughtful photographer who captures beautiful photos. DJ Michael Cruz was friendly, flexible and fun. Hire them all!
Congratulations to Mike and Torey! Thank you for sharing your oh-so elegant Washington DC wedding reception with us!
