Elise and Ben’s rustic ranch wedding in Virginia took place at the picturesque property of the Marriott Ranch at the base of the Blue Ridge. They were looking for a destination wedding, but didn’t want to have to go too far from Washington DC. The couple had planned to wed outdoors, but with a quick change in plans, their wedding day became an intimate indoor ceremony surrounded by lots of love and a little wedding reception decor too! Nothing could keep Elise and Ben from celebrating in style. (We especially love her purple wedding shoes!). From purple bridesmaid dresses to beautifully bright orange personal flowers, their wedding took full advantage of the fall season and has one pop of color after the next. A special thanks to Kara Coleen for the beautiful photos!
From Elise: We wanted the feel of a destination wedding — where we could get away with our friends and family, have fun, relax and embrace a festive weekend — but still within a an hour or so drive from Washington, DC. Fortunately, Virginia has a lot to offer in that category and the Marriott Ranch proved to be a great venue. We had a western-themed Halloween party at “Western Town” – hayrides, camp fire, pumpkins and s’mores included; the boys got to go skeet shooting the next morning; and we met up with friends for some wine tasting nearby on Sunday. And of course the wedding itself was a blast!
Like all brides, I hoped for gorgeous weather on the big day, but unfortunately we had a cold snap and it was pretty windy (note the crazy wedding veil pics)! We moved the wedding ceremony inside, which, even though we made sure when picking a venue that we would be happy with an indoor ceremony, was still a little disappointing. The silver lining was that since guests sat at their tables with an aisle in the middle, it felt so much more impactful going down the aisle. Not only did it feel like a huge wedding, people were spread out more and I could actually see people as I came down the aisle. Plus, the wedding photos in front of the hearth really helped us remember how intimate and warm the wedding venue was.
Congratulations to Elise and Ben! Thank you for sharing your beautiful ranch wedding ceremony with us! Stay tuned, up next we’re sharing their rustic wedding reception with you!
