Elise and Ben’s outdoor-turned-indoor ranch wedding in Virginia was picture perfect, despite the last minute change in weather. If you missed their ceremony, be sure to take a look here! The pair wed and celebrated on Halloween weekend at the Marriott Ranch in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia where they filled their rustic wedding reception space with wine barrels, purple wedding details, and a delicious looking wedding cake! Their wedding was the perfect distance from Washington DC for the bride and groom to feel like they got out of town without it being too far away and we especially love how they took full advantage of the fall season with elegant pops of purple and orange. Elise and Ben’s wedding was the perfect blend of lots of love, personal touches, and pretty fall wedding flowers – arranged by the bride’s mom! Thanks to Kara Coleen for these fabulous photos!

The two family contributions to our wedding were the flowers and the chicken dance! My mom has gotten into gardening and flower arranging over the past few years, so she wanted to do the flowers for the wedding. It took lots of planning and careful selection to make sure that we had a shared wedding day vision and could execute without a full flower shop and staff at our disposal. The end result was perfect!

I thought my father-in-law was joking when he said, “You have to have the chicken dance at the wedding.” Turns out he wasn’t! He was so impassioned about it when I at first said, “No,” that I had to relent. I had never seen the chicken dance at a wedding – nor had my friends – apparently it’s a big thing in the Midwest. There was a lot of friendly banter leading up to the wedding, so when the time came everyone was ready and the photo of my in-laws doing the chicken dance is one of my favorites!
