Liz and Jay hosted their downtown Washington DC wedding reception at the posh Fairmont Washington DC hotel in Georgetown, following a sweet church wedding ceremony that you can see here! (You also might want to check out their sweet marriage proposal surprise in Georgetown that we featured too!) Filled with pretty purples and lots of personal wedding details (we can’t get enough of the dog on the wedding cake!), the newlyweds celebrated in chic-city style with their loved ones who were even encouraged to Instagram with their personal hashtag, of course! Thanks to photographer, Saperstone Studios, for sharing each and every detail, right down to the wedding signs and mailbox too!
From Liz: The main priority of our wedding was making sure our wedding guests felt comfortable. Almost all of our guests were from out of town and getting around Washington DC was going to be tricky for all of them. We hired a lot of transportation for our guests for the day of the wedding to bring them to the church and to the Fairmont. We also hosted a breakfast the next day at the Fairmont since a majority of them were staying there.
Looking for a wedding venue can be overwhelming! We looked at a lot of venues and my advice is, when you walk into a place, you will KNOW that that is the place. There were a lot of places we saw that would be great places to have a wedding, but The Fairmont was it for us. As soon as I walked in, I knew that was where we were going to be celebrating our wedding day.
We also had a big, vintage mirror that we used as our wedding reception seating chart. It has since been used as a seating chart in two other weddings.
We skipped wedding favors. I never remember to bring them home with me from a wedding and we wanted to do something more meaningful with that money. We donated money to three organizations that were close to us, The Alzheimer’s Association, The MS Society and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.
Liz gave us some great advice for DC area couples getting married:
I should have delegated wedding related tasks to people in the beginning! A lot of my bridesmaids helped me get stuff done the week before the wedding, but I couldn’t get everything done that I wanted to do. Delegate to your bridal party/parents/future-in-laws…they are all more than happy to help! And the less you have to do, the better!
Congratulations to Liz and Jay! Thank you for sharing your beautiful purple posh wedding reception with us!
