We are kicking off the official start to summer with this stunning springtime destination wedding in Washington DC. This stunning soiree captured by Beth T. Photography is the perfect example of why I love DC. (Before you go on, make sure you check out their traditional Catholic wedding ceremony first!) Katie and Mike wanted a reception venue that had a city-chic vibe—and with breathtaking views of the Potomac and Kennedy Center, Sequoia was the perfect choice.
From Katie: The overall vision we had for our wedding was modern, sophisticated, but comfortable. Both our church and reception venues have truly spectacular architectural detail and views, so it was important for us to keep our color palette simple, but at the same time classic and timeless, so we went with black, white, and a hint of plum for accents so it wouldn’t take too much away from our venues.
With so many out of town guests (many had never been to D.C. before), it was important for us to select a reception venue that showcased the city, with floor to ceiling windows, that truly had a “DC” vibe. We went with Sequoia in Georgetown, my favorite area of the city, because of it’s breathtaking views of the Potomac and Kennedy Center, and it’s exceptional dining selections.
For each table number, I had childhood pictures of my husband and I enlarged, so each table number corresponded to our age in the picture. Guests loved it!
Katie’s wedding planning advice for other DC-area couples:
Determine fairly early on what are the most important part(s) of your wedding that you want to leave a lasting impression on for each of your guests. We all attend so many weddings, what will be the things your guests continue to talk about years after your wedding? Most likely, it won’t be an amazing set of wedding stationery, but that extra thought or detail at your reception. Take time to think about the areas you want to splurge or be remembered.
