Welcome back! When it came to planning their intimate Washington DC wedding reception, Mona and Chris had two priorities: an intimate gathering and a sustainably-sourced menu – and boy, did they deliver! (Make sure you check out their outdoor wedding in Georgetown too!) This adorable duo came to talented team at Restaurant Nora with the idea that was a little bit Northeastern, a little bit Egyptian—yummy! Their personalized menu was just the beginning of their travel-themed wedding ideas, but I’ll let Mona tell you about it as you scroll through all the pretty captured by Angel Kidwell Photography.

Washington DC Wedding Intimate Reception

From Mona: We both love to travel, so we decided to make that our theme. We mixed the idea of travel with a vintage look to give everything a romantic touch. My sister hand made a lot of decorations using burlap, twine and maps cut out of old atlases she bought at a flea market. I also printed out vintage travel posters to post-card sizes for table markers. The tables were named by cities or countries we had been, or that represent our families (his family is from Massachusetts and my family is from Cairo, Egypt).

The chef at Restaurant Nora was able to accommodate both of our cultural backgrounds into the menu at our request with lobster to represent Chris’ Massachusetts heritage and stuffed grape leaves to represent my Egyptian heritage. We also named the tables after places we were from (Egypt, Massachusetts) or had been to together and were meaningful for both of us.
