When it comes to planning your wedding, sometimes packing up and heading to a romantic destination to tie the knot sounds great, am I right? But, when that escape just so happens to be set right here in our nation’s capital, let’s just say amazing! Floridian brides, Cristal and Orialys, came up to Washington DC not only because it recognizes same-sex marriages, but because it’s symbolic for change. Love that! Shelly Guberek Photography was on hand to capture all the memories from Orialys and Cristal’s outdoor wedding ceremony. And don’t forget to scroll to the bottom and check out their video trailer by Cinema Cake Filmmakers!
From Cristal: At the time we lived in Florida so we wanted to get married in one of the states that recognized our marriage. We thought what better backdrop than Washington, DC, our nation’s capital? So symbolic for change and the new accepting and loving momentum for equality. So we knew even in our invitations and certain things, like our welcome gift bags, we wanted to incorporate the DC national mall skyline with the monuments. Our favorite color for a little while had been purple so we went with that, and a bit of red for love!
We are more than grateful to DC for opening up their hearts to same-sex marriages. Our family and friends coming from out of town to witness our love and be part of our wedding weekend is something so special that words can not express. We feel in love with the District so much during our wedding planning trips up here that we ended up moving to DC! The fact that our marriage is recognized here means the world to us so it sealed the deal.
