Welcome back! Natalie and Joseph’s rustic Virginia wedding reception at Bluemont Vineyard was entirely focused on them as a couple. (Did you see their traditional Roman Catholic wedding ceremony??) The bride even said: “Truly, I just wanted people to walk into place that was very reflective of us, our taste, and incorporate personal touches from our lives.” And, that they did! Everything from their dessert table (with the famous Baltimore Berger cookies + homemade Italian pizzelles!) to the DIY photo table numbers reflected their personalities, history, and love for one another. A very special thanks to Stephen Bobb Photography for sharing his gorgeous work with us!
From Natalie: My main priority was creating the ambiance I had always envisioned. I wanted to create a warm, intimate, personal and beautiful space for myself and my guests. Although my dad kept telling me “remember Natalie, flowers die,” I do not regret splurging on them and the rest of the decor. It turned out amazing!
It was important to me to have personal touches at my wedding. We made the table numbers that were mason jars with vintage lids filled with vegetable oil that preserved a photo of Joey and I. Each table number jar had a different photo of us throughout our relationship.
I also incorporated personal touches in some of the desserts. Our first place we moved in together and currently live, is Baltimore, MD. If you live or are from Baltimore you are well aware of the famous Berger cookies and that they originated here. We thought it would be great to have this touch of our home at the wedding and I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t find them delicious. The other cookies I had to have were famous Giannone pizzelle. These are a traditional Italian waffle cookie. It was very important to incorporate my Italian heritage into my wedding. I grew up with my grandfather making them for me, and since he has passed away, my dad has taken on the tradition of making them.
My mom is known for her homemade jam and I thought it would make the perfect favor. This was a great idea because everyone was thrilled to get her homemade peach jam and we were able to prepare these months before the wedding instead of scrambling the last minute.
Natalie’s wedding planning advice for other DC-area couples: I advise couples to make sure they are the way the want to be at their own wedding. I have heard too many times that couples wished they had done one thing or another at their wedding. It’s easy to get caught up in chatting with everyone or get side tracked, but personally I made it a goal so spend a lot of time on the dance floor. That is how I wanted to celebrate with my guests and I’m glad I allowed myself the time to do that. It’s your day, you are allowed to do what you please.
