I hope you are staying warm and bracing for all this snow on this fine day! Let’s warm you up with Ashley and William’s city chic wedding in Washington DC. Their day featured a relaxed, outdoor setting with just the right elegant touches captured by Rebekah Hoyt Photography. Complete with tuxedos, moss monograms and a gray color palette, I am loving every detail of this black-tie affair at The Textile Museum effortlessly put together by Courtney of A Sweet Soiree. Be sure to join us again later this morning to see the second half of their wedding day!
From Ashley: We had absolutely no theme! We knew we wanted a timeless and romantic feel to our wedding, but we did not have a theme or even a color palette in mind for a very long time (which drove my family and friends insane!). I love neutrals and wasn’t big on having a colorful wedding, so we finally decided on white, gray and gold. The colors suited our laid back personalities and complimented the city and garden scapes of our wedding day. From there I pinned probably every gray wedding from the last decade on my Pintrerest board. Pinterest was a great tool for finding inspiration and organizing ideas. It’s also easy to get overwhelmed with possibilities. My planner used my pins to create a final inspiration board to help keep us (me) on track, which I highly recommend.
From Ashley: The first look on the Spanish steps was really special. It was just so wonderful to have some private moments together before the wedding started.
From Ashley: Our main priorities were venue and entertainment. I did not have elaborate dreams of my wedding as a little girl, but I did know that I wanted my wedding ceremony to be outdoors. Our initial search for an outdoor ceremony space took us literally all over the DC metropolitan area. Because most of our guests were coming from out of town we decided that we wanted to stick to a venue in the District, but that we didn’t want a venue that was too cliché DC. Luckily, I came across photos of the Textile Museum on another wedding blog and when Will and I visited we immediately fell in love. The museum’s gardens really are like a urban oasis in the middle of the city and exactly fit the classic yet laid back mood we wanted for our wedding.
From Ashley: At the close of the ceremony we jumped the broom, a common African-American wedding tradition. The broom was designed as a collaboration between both my sister/maid of honor and my sorority sister which made the moment even more special. The broom is now on display in our home as a reminder of wedding day.
