We are kicking off our new Washington DC wedding announcement series on the blog with Ashley and Erik. These two high school sweet hearts have been together for nearly 11 years and finally became engaged in November. They met in chemistry class! Awww! They have been together so long that they have grown together in so many ways and consider each other family already! I’ll let them tell their story…

Tell us about your engagement…

We just celebrated 11th amazing years together in November. To commemorate our special day, Erik planned a full day of surprises for me; as the day progressed I began to realize that each stop was an experience that I had talked about wanting to do over the years. We left at 4:30 AM and traveled to New Jersey (from Baltimore, mind you) where Erik reserved a private trail for us to go an early morning horseback ride. We left and drove to Cape May, NJ to visit a lighthouse, a long-time dream of mine! We walked up nearly 200 steps to reach the top of the lighthouse where they took photos and even passed an elderly couple celebrating their anniversary on the way. They told us to make memories and little did I know what memories would be made that day! After our tour of the lighthouse, we headed to Philly where we visited the botanical gardens’ conservatory and saw some of the most beautiful and unusual flowers and plants. That evening, after an already whirlwind day, we headed to dinner pretty exhausted but still excited from the day’s events. I thought we would be going home after all that, but Erik let me know that we had ONE last stop. I couldn’t imagine where we could be going that time of night, but I’m always down for a surprise with that man. So, once we left dinner, we drove to an intimate park with a stream and benches that was lit perfectly by a small Inn behind us and it was there that he asked me to be his wife. How could I not say yes?!

About DC…

We were both born and raised in Baltimore, but have developed a love-hate relationship with DC over the years. We have always loved the area of Georgetown, but managed to get so turned around every time we tried to visit. Thankfully, the past few years have been a lot better for us and now DC is our friend…on most days! We are in the very beginning stages of planning since we are so newly engaged, but we will likely be getting married in DC.

Thank you so much Ashley and Erik! We wish you the best in your marriage and your wedding planning, of course!
