We are going to send you off to celebrate Thanksgiving with a little DIY wedding inspiration. (Remember to save your wine corks over the holidays too!) Here is a DIY project from the real world and with so many vineyards in Virignia, this type of project is perfect for a local wedding in the DC area. You might remember Lauren and Chad from their vineyard wedding in Virginia photographed by Andrea & Renata!? Lauren and Chad took their love of wine to a whole new level and incorporated it into their wedding day decor. They collected loads of wine corks and put them together in unique signs, an escort card table and even hearts for their ceremony aisle! I was so in awe of Lauren’s craftiness (with the help of family and friends, of course!) that I asked her to share more about how she made the wine cork decorations.
From Lauren: As for the cork letters, we did make them. It’s the beauty of planning a wedding after Pinterest was created! We wanted to incorporate wine into our wedding, but do it in subtle ways. I had seen cork letters on Pinterest but nothing like this, it was our way to put a spin on it. It was a family affair to make them.
From Lauren: The first project was to make words out of wine bottle corks. This ended up being a bit more than we bargained for as it’s not very easy to get the corks to stick together. We finally found that reinforcing them with popsicle sticks was the best way to go. Once we got this, we made cork words for “Bar”, “Mr. & Mrs”, and finally we turned out a few into hearts to line the isle.
From Lauren: Other ways that we tied in the wine theme was by making our escort card table out of wine corks and pallet wood. We filled reusable wine bags as our hotel welcome bags with pecial treats. We had wine barrels at the alter. Also, we had a few different wines for guest to choose from at cocktail hour so they could do a little tasting while they socialized.

Thank you so much, Lauren! I think the best part of this DIY project might be collecting all of the corks, no!? Happy wine drinking (and crafting)! Be sure to check out some of the other DC area DIY weddings and projects that we have featured. And, do not miss this DIY wine cork chandelier!
