We are back with more from Erin and Alex’s whimsical purple Maryland wedding. (Be sure to check out their wedding ceremony from earlier!) Tracy from Timmester Photography was there to capture all of the pretty, pretty details, including their DIY book centerpieces that they collected. Since these two nerdy love birds met while playing buggy – a team that designed a gravity vehicle – their vehicle, the “Renaissance,” was on full display, too!
From Erin: We started with an initial theme of ‘whimsical, romantic vintage’. Our color palette was initially just shades of purple, but then both a dark and light shade of green and some browns and greens were added with our choices of reception table decor, flowers and our invitation stationary.
From Erin: Perhaps the best expression of our vision was highlighted in our custom table arrangements. We really didn’t want to have only a flower arrangement on each table, so I collected green depression glass vases and candy dishes, initially because they looked really good with our choice of purple tablecloths. It was also meaningful because green depression glass was made with uranium and the bride is a radiochemist. This led to choosing other items of the same era, late 1920’s, such as books and milk glass to pair with the depression glass. We also found vintage rabbit figurines to complement our rabbit logo.
Erin and Alex’s advice for other DC area couples planning a wedding:
Book early, book early, book early! Even if it means extending your engagement for a little while to get the vendors or reception venue that you want, use the time to get to know each other better! We did most of our planning from a distance (we currently reside in Berkeley, CA) and having high-quality, responsive vendors really paid off. We could always get answers to our questions (and our neuroses, in the bride’s case) and our wedding went more smoothly than we could ever have imagined!
