We have a bright, fresh dose of spring for you this Monday morning with Laura and Nathaniel’s wedding in Maryland. With their wedding right on the Chesapeake Bay, there were inspired to choose a color palette of coral, turquoise with soft touches of gray. (It helps that turquoise is the bride’s favorite color!) Leslie Koehn captured their wedding day beautifully, including all of the amazing DIY details that they worked so hard on. And, I especially love how it stopped drizzling right before Laura walked down the aisle and they were able to have an outside wedding ceremony right on the water. Come back later this morning to see their reception!

From Laura: Our wedding was right on the water, so we chose hues of turquoise, coral, white, and grey to complement the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. A ton of our details were DIY!  I have always been minorly obsessed with crafting, plus I wanted my own special “Laura & Nat” touches to our wedding day. Anyone who knows me even just a little bit can attest that I LOVE turquoise. It was more than just a color on our wedding day; it evolved into a theme. Our wedding invitations, our koozies, even our signature “turquoise love” cocktails were various shades of aqua blue. Also, I absolutely adored the mason jars that we hand painted, and hung around our ceremony and used throughout our wedding reception. They gave the perfect pop of color with an elegant balance of baby’s breath & white roses.

From Laura: One of my favorite details was my wedding dress. It took me a few months to find “the one” since I have a few different visions in mind. When I tried on this beauty for the second time I fell in love with the two dimensions of the dress: traditional lace throughout coupled with a fun party flare at the bottom. With some thriftiness, I was able to find it pre-owned online and in mint condition. I could get the dress that I loved and at a price that was relatively affordable?? This was a no-brainer. Once I got my dress however, it was the hardest 7 months to keep it a surprise from my fiance/(now husband). I seriously wanted to try it on every week and dance around the house. When my husband saw me for the first time walking down the aisle, his priceless “jaw dropping” expression made it worth the wait!

From Laura: My husband loves all things related to Washington sports and is especially passionate about the Washington Nationals. He got curly “W” socks for all his groomsmen and himself to wear on the wedding day. It was a simple detail, it had meaning to him and all the groomsmen loved them!

From Laura:  Despite ominous weather looming all morning and into the afternoon on our wedding day, we stuck with our plan to get married outside overlooking the water. The overcast skies and light rain threatened our dream ceremony up until just seconds before I walked down the aisle to my handsome groom. It was at this very instant, when we saw each other for the first time (since we decided at the last minute to forgo a “first look”), that the clouds broke away and the sun beamed from above. It seriously was a magical moment and unforgettable day.

From Laura: My mom made the bag for the Jewish tradition “Breaking of the Glass” in a “Rock the Red” Caps towel. Since we met at a Caps game ,we wanted to incorporate something Washington Hockey related…the red rally towel was the perfect touch!
