Megan and Nicole dreamed of a Washington DC wedding with a modern space as a setting as a backdrop for their bold and clean wedding style paired with soft, vintage touches. The Dupont Circle Hotel made for a perfect setting with Drew Bird Photography was on hand to capture all the fun! We’re especially loving the use of paper lanterns as ceremony aisle decor – an homage to Nicole’s Korean heritage.

From Megan: We’re opposite ends of the spectrum so we chose a modern space (for Nicole) and added vintage, soft touches (for Megan). We love bold color, simple style, and a great party. These were all elements we tried to bring to our day.

Handmade touches are important to me, so many elements were incorporated into the wedding. As president of a local artist league, I asked local artist friends to loan paintings for the evening. Artwork was displayed around the perimeter of the room as decoration and an interesting feature for guests to appreciate. We hired a calligrapher to hand-pen the seating cards, welcome bags and table signage. We used paper lanterns as part of the ceremony to pay homage to Nicole’s Korean heritage.

Megan’s advice for other DC-area couples:

It was important for us to decide what mattered most and not compromise in those areas. There are so many details that go into a wedding, with a limited budget it’s hard to have every single thing the way you want it. Choose a few areas (top 3) that you won’t negotiate and compromise on the rest. Use local artisans and businesses since it can be less expensive and it definitely can bring you better service than a large company!
