We are kicking into fall around the DC area and nothing is more “fall” than Meredith and Matt’s wedding in Virginia! Meredith and Matt wanted to have a wedding that was outside and that appreciated the feel of Loudoun County where they both grew up, and they also wanted to hold true to their families’ southern roots and have a traditional wedding. In Leesburg, Riverside on the Potomac allowed them to take their own spin on rustic chic. As an October wedding, they embraced the season with fall colors and lots of natural elements like wheat, pumpkins and natural herbs. You can also see in the photographs from Kelly Ewell Photography that they didn’t want to see each other before the wedding, but they wanted to talk and exchange gifts and so they did so around the door. How cute?!

From Meredith:  While our wedding had a definite rustic-chic-meets-garden-party vibe, we didn’t have a specific vision in mind. Since we are both from Loudoun County, we wanted our wedding to feel like “us.” We tried to choose elements that reflected our personalities and backgrounds (selecting a venue that had a barn to make use of was a nod to my husband’s upbringing on a horse farm, including monograms wherever possible hinted at my family’s southern roots). We allowed the season (Fall is our favorite and one of the prettiest in Virginia.) to dictate our color palette and florals (vivid poppy bridesmaid dresses, pumpkins, mums and fresh herbs).

More from Meredith:  I was so fortunate to have a mother who jumped right in and helped with all of the wedding craft projects. We designed our own programs, place cards, table numbers and centerpiece touches to accent the flowers. I wore my mother’s veil (which she dyed herself from stark white to ivory to match my dress) and a string of pearls that three generations of women on my father’s side have worn on their wedding day. The pearls were my “something borrowed” and originally belonged to my Aunt who passed shortly before our wedding. It was a speical way to honor her and feel her presence that day. Matt and I each carried a coin from my grandfather’s collection (my “something old”).

More from Meredith:  There are so many favorite moments that is hard to decide! I loved getting ready with my girls, the quiet moments with my dad in the antique car we drove up the aisle in, and the look on Matt’s face when he saw me for the first time. I think the best moment was right after Matt and I were presented as husband and wife and walked up the aisle – there were a few quiet moments of just us (and our photographer, Kelly) and we just burst out laughing. We hugged and kissed and couldn’t believe we were actually married! It was the single most joy I have felt in my life.
