We know our readers are always on the hunt for gorgeous wedding inspiration, so grab a cup of tea and get ready to soak up today’s vintage English inspiration. As you know, we love our DC wedding vendors, and the local chapter of the International Special Event Society (ISES) celebrated and honored the best of the best in the special events industry at a gala inspired by one of my favorite shows. The early 20th century glamour of Downton Abbey inspired some DC-area creatives for the ISES gala, and boy, they did not disappoint! Today, Gerry of Petal’s Edge Floral Design is here to explain more about this creative Downton Abbey inspiration. Take it away, Gerry…
From Heidi: The ballroom was divided into two themes, one representing the upstairs and the other the downstairs of house.
The upstairs featured elegant linens in lavender, bisque and purple tones. Elegant containers such as cut glass vases and tea sets were accented with elements evoking the life of the Grantham family – silver candelabra to represent the dining, vintage books to represent the library, horse figurines to evoke the annual hunts, table clocks, a globe and compass set, a victrola, a typewriter, vintage tea pots, and crystal decanters.
By contrast, the downstairs focused primarily on the life of the kitchen and its staff. Wire egg baskets featured ivory and brown egg hues mixed with eggs in the same tones. A wrought iron stand held an array of copper pots and was topped with a peck basket of stew vegetables – turnips, carrots, cabbages, onions, and leeks. Matching designs of stew vegetables in copper pots centered two of the tables. Finally, two black coal buckets featured a simple design of white baby’s breath.
