We are back with more fun with Ashley and Frankie from Kirsten Marie Photography! (Did you see part one of their modern wedding ceremony in DC?) Since they were high school sweet hearts, this couple decided to incorporate their school theme throughout their reception. With loads of DIY touches – like their flowers! – and details, they were able to pull off a super fun reception that I wish I got an invite to!
From Ashley: Because of cost a great deal of our wedding was DIY. Frankie is a web developer and I have some design experience, so he made www.frankieandashley.com and I designed all of the invitations and other stationery.
My bridesmaids did some amazing work. The paper airplane backdrop was designed and assembled by my maid of honor. Another bridesmaid ordered flowers online and pulled off arrangements you would expect only from a professional florist. Instead of escort cards we ordered pencils and made Washi tape flags.
Ashley and Frankie’s advice for other engaged couples in DC:
If you can swing the venue and the catering, you can save elsewhere by taking on projects yourself and recruiting your closest friends to help pull off the event you want. Spilled Milk Catering is worth every penny while providing an unbeatable price in the DC area. The food was fun, it received rave reviews and the cost was half that of most of DC’s ritzy caterers.
