We’re back with part two of Christine and Shaun’s preppy Virginia wedding from Laurie Bracewell Photography! In addition to continuing to incorporate their Irish heritgae in the reception (Did you see how they did so in their outdoor wedding ceremony?), they brought in details from both their New Hampshire and Virginia home states. Top it all off with fun details like koozie escort cards (How fun!?) and a T-shirt guest book and it goes without saying that this celebration was a one-of-a-kind blast!

Koozie Escort Cards

From Christine: From the invitations to the programs to all the table signs, I designed and created every piece to ensure our big day had a cohesive look and feel. Other handmade details were our handfasting ribbon, the “C” and “S” hanging during our ceremony, the ribbon wrapped dessert towers and the chalkboard table signs. We met at a Red Sox/Nationals game, so rather than our guests signing a book, we had them sign our team shirts!  And everyone went home with a navy or green koozie that said “Sláinte!”, an Irish drinking toast meaning “health”.

We wanted to incorporate where we both grew up, so some of the details we included were: Me (New Hampshire)- Maple candy in our welcome bags, Red Sox robe while getting ready, Sam Adams Summer Ale as the “Brides drink” and my Dad and I surprising our guests by switching to “Sweet Caroline” mid father/daughter dance.  Shaun (Virginia)- VA peanuts in our welcome bags, grits as part of our wedding dinner, southern touches of mason jars and burlap, and of course our wedding being in VA!

We realized early on that we did not want all the “normal” wedding details, so we skipped certain things, like a wedding cake, opting instead for a dessert bar (complete with Irish cream cupcakes!).

Christine’s advice for other DC-area couples:

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the options and opinions coming at you for your big day, but no matter what, stay true to who you both are and what you want. Also, figure out a budget that works for you and stick to it.  This is your wedding day, so do exactly what you want (and don’t want) to do!
