There’s really only one way to start the conversation about Sarah and Alex’s Washington DC wedding from Megan Evans Photographythat dress.  Who needs a little something blue when their wedding dress itself does the job!? I can’t get over just how gorgeous Sarah’s dress is, and I’m happy to report that it inspired the entire palette and feel for the day. A touch of elegance, light and fresh colors and a hefty does of stunning florals completed their celebration, but not without help from friends and family in just about every aspect of the day!

Blue and White Wedding Dress Unique Wedding Dress

From Sarah: I think our guests have done the best job of describing our wedding:  “Casually elegant;” “so many personal and unique touches;” “just plain fun;” “never-seen-anything-like-it” wedding dress.  The ceremony was at a beautiful church on my husband’s high school grounds and the reception was at a farmhouse, River Farm, on the Potomac River in Alexandria (one of George Washington’s five farms!).  The September weather was sunny and warm and we were surrounded by all our friends and family.  Perfect.

Pink and Blue Wedding Flowers

My wedding dress is a light blue with a lace overlay so we chose colors that complemented the blue.  I’m not a matchy-matchy kind of person so we ended up with several colors in our palette, including navy, dark purple, grey, greyish purple, and ivory for the wedding party clothes and reception venue and pinks, greens and pale blues for the bridesmaids’ flowers.

Purple Grooms Attire

Alex’s and the groomsmen’s ties were dark purple to represent Alex’s high school colors (purple and white) – we also got married in his high school church.

Groomsmen

DC Church Wedding

The bridesmaids’ flowers and my bouquet were done by a personal friend, the photographer was one of my bridesmaids’ aunt, our soloist was a friend of one of our groomsmen, the priest was my husband’s high school soccer coach, and the invitations were designed and made by a friend of another one of my bridesmaids.
