When you get married a working theater, you don’t need much in the way of decor to make your wedding really stand out! Jane and Brian (Did you catch their multi-faith wedding ceremony?) took a theme cue from the stage-theme, using theater tickets as place cards, and a style cue from the modern architecture, keeping everything sleek and simplistic. With some delicious food, “Love Cake” favors (read more below!), and a whole lot of dancing, all captured by Leo Druker, I’d say they did their unique and dramatic venue justice!

From Jane: We did “theater ticket” styled place cards, handwriting in the names. Our top priority was the venue, and given the fact that the Arena Stage is a working theater, finding an available date was challenging. The special events staff at the Arena was great in helping us figure out some options. We also focused on having a great DJ. We wanted to have a real dance party!

At each seat, there was a box with a piece of cake inside. Brian’s family is Sri Lankan, and the cake is a Sri Lankan specialty called “Love Cake.” For the wedding, Brian’s mother and her sisters baked sheets and sheets of cake at home the week before and hand wrapped each piece for each box.

Jane’s advice to other DC-area couples:

It is possible that it will not be 100 degrees and muggy in August. Unlikely though, and we planned for everything indoors. DC is pretty quiet in August, so it was easy for our guests in terms of hotels, travel, and getting some sightseeing in too.
