When a wedding venue is as stunning and scenic as ThorpeWood, you don’t need to add much to make your wedding day complete. Michelle and Joseph said “I do” amongst this Maryland wedding venue’s lush grounds, with a few simple details and a lot of natural beauty. Captured by Amber Reinink, check out the first part of their nature-filled, DIY accented, wedding day.

Maryland Wedding

From Michelle: We chose ThorpeWood because it reminded us of where we grew up (Northern NY and Northern CA). We wanted to have a wedding that captured all that nature had to offer in a personal, friendly, and genuine way. Our goal with decorations was to add a bit of elegance or polish to the natural elegance that ThorpeWood had to offer. We knew not much would be needed as the place needs no decoration, nature (and an amazing grounds staff) did most of the work. I liked the neutral palette but also needed a rich, elegant pop of color and deep purple did the trick.

I made handmade photo albums for my bridesmaids for their gifts, my veil and headpiece, the ring bearer’s pillow, and my aunt made the runners for the tables. We got a stamp made that looked like a “cancel stamp” from the post office with the date and location of the wedding and our names, and that was what we used to personalize all the paper materials like the escort cards, the ceremony program, and the insert for the gift bags that we printed on our home printer.

Wedding First Kiss

We kept asking ourselves why we were putting so much into planning a party. It was so much more than a party. It was worth every dollar, hour, and late night we put into it. It is so much more than the sum of the parts. It became a magical start our married life together.
