There’s nothing I love more than brunch, so a brunch wedding? Yes, please! Molly and Robert weren’t originally planning a daytime affair for their  sweet and simple Maryland wedding, captured by Brian Tropiano, but when they fell upon the opportunity, it ended up being a perfect fit. They incorporated a laid back outdoor ceremony, understated cocktail hour and delicious Southern-inspired brunch menu and spent a lovely day with their guests celebrating.

From Molly: We had a Sunday Brunch wedding (our favorite meal of the week anyways) and got to have a more laid back reception where guests could play lawn games, listen to the live band, or walk the grounds of the venue. We ended up having “Brunch Bocci and Bluegrass” for our wedding day. Because we wanted to take advantage of all of our friends being in town, we had an informal after party at one of our favorite bars that evening so we could keep everyone together longer.

My sister made the programs, I made the flower arrangements, and my mom sewed the table runners. A very close friend made our wedding cake, my uncle officiated the ceremony, my aunt helped coordinate the day-of, and we had close friends play music for the ceremony. It was a blessing to have so many of our favorite people involved in making our wedding day happen!

We wanted to have our ceremony and reception in the same place, or very close to each other, so that was our first filter when looking for venues. We were hoping to have something outdoors and on the more casual side. Because venues in the DC area fill up so far in advance, we were lucky to squeeze ourselves into the calendar at the Woodend Sanctuary for a Sunday wedding. We weren’t necessarily envisioning a daytime wedding from the beginning, but we took what was available and it ended up being perfect.

Besides the obvious, honestly one of my favorite memories is something that went wrong. It came time for us to leave the ceremony and we realized that we forgot our getaway car. We were going to use my Mini Cooper (I moved to DC in that car, Robert moved from NYC to DC in that car so I really love it) It had never been cleaner; we had it detailed a few days before. Right before it came time to leave, we both realized that we left it at home! It was actually hilarious and we both started cracking up laughing. Thankfully neither one of us cared too much and my new sister-in-law let us take her car instead. No matter how much you plan, somethings will happen and they might end up being one of your favorite memories, so don’t worry! 🙂

Our caterer was incredible. She also filled in as a day of coordinator for us. I have had so many people rave about the food – I think I got more compliments on the food than any other aspect about the wedding….everything was beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. They really helped us through the menu planning process, and went out of their way to make the menu and rentals in our budget. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Molly’s advice to other DC-area couples:

Don’t stress out too much and enjoy the planning. Don’t feel pressured to spend a fortune on your wedding. Be open to different types of venues; we have so many amazing museums and churches, just take your time and do the research. A lot of the top rated venues in DC are very expensive and book up so far in advance that some brides might get discouraged, but there are great places to host your wedding if you put in more time looking: plus its a great way to discover new places in DC that you might not have ever been before.
