Looking for inspiration for your rehearsal dinner in the DC area? Well, have we got something for you today! Sam and Dan’s rehearsal dinner was an over-the-top country inspired BBQ bash, captured by k. thompson photography, and man does it look like fun! With Dan’s mom to thank for the planning and fun details, they had sunflowers galore, embroidered table runners, bandanas on chairs, drinks in mason jars and even a custom beer pong table! How’s that for a blast!? Another favorite detail of mine was the cow bell they provided, so at any time a guest could ring it and give a special speech or their well wishes. How fitting for this country-in-the-city event!?
From Sam: Our rehearsal dinner was country-casual, and it was fabulous! Dan’s mom planned the whole thing, and she absolutely had a clear vision for the event. Dan and I wanted something super casual and super fun to welcome our guests into town and kick off the wedding weekend the right way. We thought a BBQ joint with delicious food (and fun drinks — margaritas and jello shots!) would be the perfect venue, and Dan’s mom translated that into a magical, exciting, and even slightly rowdy event!
Dan’s mom had photos of Dan and me throughout the years blown up and framed in large colorful frames that decorated the entire restaurant! My favorite photos were the “Wanted” posters of us on each of the bathroom doors.
The colors were bright and fun – reds and yellows, including TONS of gorgeous sunflowers that lit up the room, and there were country touches everywhere, from bandanas and embroidered denim table runners, to drinks in mason jars.
Perhaps the best personalized item was the beer-pong table in our wedding colors that Dan’s mom designed and had made specially for the evening. The table was painted like a basketball court (since Dan is a basketball player) and had our names and wedding date on it!
We had a cowbell at the rehearsal dinner so any of our friends or family could just ring the bell to give a toast or speech. It ended up being such a fun and special part of the night! There were some hilarious and meaningful speeches from our closest friends that we will remember forever!
Sam’s advice for other DC-area couples’ rehearsal dinners:
Just based on our personal experience, I would say it’s great to have a relaxed rehearsal dinner where you can unwind the night before the big day! It was so fun! The other advice would be to just stick to the things you know you like that make you “you” as a couple. We had details in both our rehearsal dinner and wedding that were just reflective of the kind of people we are, and I think our guests really felt “us” at both events — and those are also the things we will remember most for years to come!
