Alexandria and Matthew married abroad in during a romantic “wedding moon” before coming back to Washington DC for a celebration with family and friends, also known as a “happily ever after party”. The Tabard Inn couldn’t be more fitting for the venue, as it’s where the couple went on their first trip to DC and where Matthew proposed! They were able to include photos from their ceremony around the room so their loved ones could see just how the knot was tied. Beginning with a walk around the city, and beautiful portraits from Mary Kate McKenna Photography and ending with a full on dance party, I don’t think you could have a more “happily ever after” bash!
From Alexandria: We did not have a traditional wedding – we actually eloped in Europe (which has been coined our “wedding moon”) one week before our party at the Tabard Inn. We started our trip in Paris, then went to the Spanish Riviera, then Gibraltar (where we got married), and finished the trip off in the French Riviera. It was a very fun/amazing trip.
Tabard Inn has always been close to our hearts (and stomachs!). During our first visit to DC as a couple we stayed at the Tabard Inn, and fell in love with the hotel/restaurant then. Tabard has a mellow ambiance and amazing food – two things we absolutely love! In October 2010 Matt surprised me with a date to the Tabard Inn. He totally tricked me into thinking we were just having dinner, but he also reserved a room and had gone there earlier in the day to fill the room with flowers and our luggage. After dinner, we ventured to the room and there he proposed. It took us a while to decide on a reception location – originally we were going to have the reception in Michigan (where we both are from), but once we talked with our family about it we found out that they were up for a DC trip, so it worked out perfectly. Our families were able to make a vacation out of their DC visit and celebrate our nuptials with us. We called Tabard Inn the next day, they had the date we wanted and the rest is history.
About six days after our wedding moon we had our reception so we could celebrate with our friends and family. The reception kicked-off with a cocktail hour, and then turned into a dance party. It was a blast.
We had pictures from our ceremony in Gibraltar around the room at Tabard Inn. Our wonderful photographers from Gibraltar posted our photos to a photo sharing website so we could get them printed in time for our party!
I loved watching my dad bust a move to Lady Gaga! I don’t think I have ever seen him dance before, so it truly was a great moment to witness.
Alexandria’s advice to other DC-area couples:
