Katelyn and Casey were way ahead of the curve with their wedding day palette. They picked emerald as the pop of color for their DC wedding, before Pantone even declared it color of the year! (See our rounds up of emerald wedding ideas!) The regal shade of green was quite perfectly paired with their classic affair that began with a church ceremony, captured by Rebekah Hoyt Photography at the very church Katelyn’s grandfather attended as a child!
From Katelyn: When we first began planning our wedding we didn’t have an overarching theme or idea in mind but we quickly learned that we preferred a more classic style. We started with the color – which I selected based on a pair of Emerald earrings I inherited from my grandmother. At times I felt pressured to have a more “summer-appropriate” color, but ultimately we were happy we picked a color we loved and that was so special to us. We were also lucky to find two venues that featured beautiful, eye-catching architecture and decor that paired nicely with our classic taste.

We decided to have our wedding in Washington, DC, where we met. It was very special to take trips from New York City back to the city where our relationship first started to plan the day that would start the rest of our lives together.
We were married at Holy Rosary Church, which is one of the few Italian churches in the city and we later learned was the church my grandfather attend as a child
It was important for Casey and I to make the wedding day about us but we soon realized that we will have the rest of our lives to spend time together while this was the only day that all of our friends and family would be in one room. We took a moment to ourselves while our guests were at the cocktail hour but the rest of the evening was spent enjoying the company of our loved ones.
