If there’s one thing that every bride strives to achieve, it is to have a distinct and beautiful look on her wedding day—from head to toe! When it comes to wedding day fashion, there’s one accessory that you just can’t do without: a hair piece. From traditional veils and trendy headbands, to bejeweled tiaras and combs, there are tons of options. So where do you begin? Today Ky from Bridal Artistry is here to talk about what factors to consider when shopping for the perfect head ornament. Take it away, Ky…

When your big day comes you want everything to be perfect. Hair, makeup, dress, flowers, and jewelry. But what you add—those special touches—can set you apart from the rest. Make it memorable and add just the right hair accessory!
When to Accessorize
The best time to look for an accessory is after you have gotten your dress, but before the veil. This way you will know the style and direction you want to go. Are you an art deco diva? Soft and romantic? Super glamorous? Once you have this down, it will help everything flow a little better, avoiding over-accessorizing with too much jewelry or a veil that doesn’t work with your hair piece.
Already have everything and still want an accessory? No worries! Ask your stylist what would be best with your existing look. A good stylist can advise on what type of accessory to get, i.e. a comb, clip, etc.
All About the Matching Details
This is simple: the details of the hair piece should match the dress. If you have crystals in the dress, same in the hair piece. Pearls in the dress? Pearls in the hairpiece.
Wedding Day Hair + Fashion
Look for something to scale with your dress. Have a simple dress with straight lines and not a lot of volume? You can do something a little more dramatic for balance. Have a dress so big three people are going to have to hold it for you to use the bathroom? Maybe a medium sized one or a small one with big bling! You will also want to consider the style. Lace dresses are really popular right now, and floral accessories in the hair look lovely with lace. Doing a 50’s style vintage dress? Try something with antiqued feathers. Flowy dress for a spring wedding? Maybe a rose colored piece. For the modern dress, try my favorite trend: something blue in the hair. You get the picture!
Bridal Hair Accessory Trends
My favorite trends right now are having your something blue in the hair, birdcage veils, floating floral in the hair and, of course, feathers! These all make a statement without going overboard and will never be dated in photographs. Adding a little something will give you that extra special touch that will last a lifetime.
