Anybody feeling a little spring in their step as we inch closer and closer to March!? No? Well, I’m just going help you along today with this Virginia wedding from Kristen Gardner Photography. While April and John got married in September, the bright and punchy yellows they used will have you looking ahead to warmer months! But my most favorite thing about part one of this wedding day? The history behind April’s look. That dress? It’s her mother’s wedding dress, re-worked into modern day style. That veil? Her grandmother hand sewed it. Forget the yellow, that’s enough to put a spring in your step right there alone! And, come back in a little bit to see their reception.
From April: I knew that I wanted lots of yellow (it’s my favorite color) and a beautiful outdoor ceremony. We had originally planned on a winter wedding and my fiancee wanted a city wedding, but we compromised on the history and elegance of Rosemont Manor. That allowed me to have yellow, a relaxed outdoor ceremony along with a beautiful historic building.
One of my absolute favorite things was my wedding dress and my veil. I wore my mom’s wedding dress, but we recreated it and made it modern. It was so special to wear her dress, but to also make it my own. My grandmother, who made my mom’s veil, also sewed my veil by hand – it was beautiful! I also wore my great-grandmother’s blue opal ring as my “something blue”. John wore his late grandfathers cuff links.
My all-time favorite detail from the wedding were my bright yellow shoes!
My mom and I made all the paper cones for the flower petal toss at the end of the ceremony (which was so much fun to walk out to) and all the ceremony programs (handheld fans).
As part of the wedding ceremony, we had a ring blessing ceremony. We passed the rings through the congregation so that everyone could say a personal blessing or prayer over the rings. It is so great to look at our wedding rings and to know that they are filled with the well wished of our family and friends.

Looks like a gorgeous day! I love the pops of yellow and the idea of blessing the rings throughout the congregation. Very sweet.
