One of my favorite wedding tips I’ve ever heard is don’t forget about the back of your dress. It’s what everyone sees when you’re saying “I do”! Well, today’s bride Carolyn certainly did not forget about the back of her dress when she and Colin tied the knot in a Baltimore wedding ceremony captured by Abby Jiu Photography. This couple also jazzed up a classic black and white palette with charcoal hues, subtle shades of pink, and stunning calligraphy everywhere you turned!

From Carolyn: Colin and I wanted a classic city wedding that celebrated our personal style in the city where we met and fell in love. I knew I liked charcoal grey for our bridesmaid dresses because I love it as a modern play on classic black, but otherwise I didn’t really have a color palette because I didn’t want things too “matchy matchy”. We let the beautiful views of the harbor be the show with lots of candlelight and low fluffy arrangements in various shades of pink.

I carried my grandmother’s handkerchief that she carried in her wedding 55 years ago, and my sister carried in her wedding as well. I was in love with my veil. I didn’t think I wanted a long veil, but the girls at the bridal salon encouraged me to try it on. It was truly beautiful and made me feel like a real bride.

My personal favorite memory I hold close to my heart is being up on the altar with Colin. But the most fun memory would be Colin jumping up on stage with the band and putting on a wild performance to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”. The only way to describe it is legendary.

Carolyn’s advice to other DC-area couples:

I think the best way to tackle it is to pick 2 or 3 items that are your priorities and a few that you could go low key on. You can obsess over every little detail, but I found it was best to take advice from the pros and go with my gut with things that I was naturally drawn to.
