Megan and Zach carried their pear tree theme right on through from their outdoor Virginia wedding ceremony to their reception seamlessly. I can’t get enough of the guestbook that Megan handmade. Yes, she made that beauty! And I also love the subtle incorporation of their theme, like in the cake and the table numbers. Can you spot the details!? All in all, this wedding looked like a big ball of (handcrafted) fun!

From Megan: Doing so many projects myself was not an attempt to save money. In fact, I think in some instances it ended up costing more. As a person that makes things for a living, I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way, but also it was just so fulfilling to be able to represent Zach and I so purely.

I’m into crosswords, so I wrote and designed a crossword puzzle, which was tucked into each place setting. It also included a link to a playlist we created featuring music from throughout the night.

We tried to incorporate personal touches into our menu as much as possible. Zach is really into charcuterie, so we included several local cured meats, and a variety of pate´ and cheeses.

For our guest book, I translated the pear tree drawing and personal icons into cut paper art, and stitched it all together, leaf by leaf, on a large paper canvas. For the wedding we had it mounted and framed so that everyone could sign around it. It’s hanging in the living room now, and I stop and read it at least twice a day.

For the table numbers, we created a personal wine label, expanding upon the tree metaphor and incorporating the roots. We had fun with our “wine’s” description as well. I used the craft punches and stamps to create a card with each table number that would stick out of the cork. We made a lot of signs with chalkboard paint, including our seating assignments and menu board. Besides the fact that chalkboards are just fun, this was also a nod back to the Save the Date video.

Megan’s advice to other DC-area couples:

As far as vendors go, I guess I would advise surrounding yourself with people like you. Our photographers and videographers were young and energetic, in addition to their obvious talents. Having them around made the day of, and days surrounding, way more fun. As far as priorities go, we tried to approach this topic early on. We discussed the three most important things on our wedding day (DIY projects included, naturally).
