This morning we talked non traditional and what better to follow it up with than DIY!? We’re revisiting some of our favorite content from 2012 – including some of our favorite DIY details! For this installment in the best of Washington DC weddings, I’ve picked a few favorite DIY posts from both project tutorials and real weddings!

This year our resident DIY diva Kelly, a writer for the blog, shared a super simple tutorial for making your own wedding favor bags! (If you love Kelly’s craftiness as much as we do, you can follow along on her blog Studio DIY.) No matter your skill level for craftiness, these easy to make bags are perfect for take away favor bags at a candy bar or even non-edible favor you may be gifting– the options are endless.

I had to include this Maryland wedding reception since it was so full of gorgeous DIY details! Instead of a traditional bridal shower, the bride Jessica gathered her mother, mother-in-law and best girlfriends for a wedding crafting party. Together they made fabric pompoms, fringe garland and paper rosettes over champagne– and they did a wonderful job as captured by Readyluck Photographers!

Kelly once again shared her craftiness on the blog with another fabulous tutorial DIY wedding wands. These pretties are perfect for those walks back down the aisle or for your grand getaway at the end of the evening!

Laura and Colin’s DIY wedding reception photographed by Liz and Ryan features a unique map seating chart. They recruited friends and family to help them craft their day’s details, like the map, as well as intricate origami butterflies, and even the desserts!
