I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want a fun, unique and non-traditional Maryland wedding, Glen Echo Park is the way to go! The venue has a built in carnival theme and that’s exactly what Abbey and Nick used as the jumping off point for their colorful wedding, captured by Red Shoes Photography. Every bridesmaid had a look that was all her own, and so did the officiant (Also Abbey’s step-father!). Check out their vibrant ceremony and then stick around for their whimsical reception that followed!
From Abbey: Once we picked our venue, we knew we wanted to embrace the rich colors and history of the park, so we adopted a vintage carnival theme with pops of color as our inspiration. Ultimately, we selected aqua and white as our base colors with pops of bright colors. We also definitely wanted to keep things a little more informal but still fun and nice. We loved having a kid-friendly wedding — the little ones always have such an awesome time!
Each person in our wedding party is so wonderfully unique, and we are so pleased that we allowed the bridesmaids to pick their own dresses, and just had the groomsmen wear black pants and white shirts (with ties that we purchased to match the dresses).
Everything was so “us.” My step-dad is a retired minister so he conducted our ceremony and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We met with him several times and he really helped us think through the elements of our ceremony so that each and every component was very intentional.
One of our favorite memories was during the ceremony when my step-dad caught us off-guard by having our friends and family join us for the Pronouncement and Closing — this was very touching and personal since we were surrounded by our dearest friends and family.
Nick’s father has always loved Cat Stevens and we are both from Maryland (which is famous for blue crabs!), so our recessional was “Crab Dance” by Cat Stevens, which has such great energy!
