Today’s wedding looks so fun, I just can’t stand it! I secretly wish I could go back in time and be a little birdie hanging out and watching all the excitement, but instead I’ll just keep scrolling through Documentary Associates‘ photos of the day! Meghan and Stephen’s Maryland wedding took place at Glen Echo Park and it was filled with DIY projects and totally unique details. What is that the bridesmaids are standing on, you ask? Why those are handmade heart stepping stones! Talk about the perfect way to keep your shoes shiny and clean! Their ceremony also incorporated both Jewish and Scottish traditions, and just wait until you see their bold and modern reception!
From Meghan: Our goal from the beginning was to have a meaningful, personal ceremony, and then throw an amazing party for the friends and family who had come from all over to celebrate with us. I knew I wanted something that felt modern, colorful, and maybe a touch of vintage, and found an amazing Alexander Henry bird fabric that helped us pull the summary palette of bright pink, green, and yellow together, anchored with black and white.
We put together the ceremony and wrote our own vows, and included a ketuba, handmade chuppah, handfasting, and breaking of the glass to represent Stephen’s Jewish and my Scottish heritage. Our friends and family pitched in as well – making our standing hearts, our table linens, our photobooth, our flowers, and even our cake!
After a lot of indecision, Stephen and I decided to write our own vows the morning of the wedding. We agreed on a format, but otherwise didn’t share them with each other before the ceremony – it turned out we wrote almost identical vows! It had us both cracking up (along with our parents holding the chuppah) during an otherwise intense part of the ceremony.
