Meghan and Stephen seriously knocked my socks off with their wedding reception from Documentary Associates . (If you missed their outdoor wedding ceremony, and the unique heart stepping stones, you’ll want to see that first!) The colors and patterns are so striking, with black and white striped table runners and the milk glass vases filled with hits of modern blooms. The napkin pattern is what inspired the whole thing and it’s just another stunning dimension on their long, eclectic tables. I suppose I can stop gushing over the details now and let you see for yourself!
From Meghan: We wanted our wedding to be the backyard wedding we would throw if we had an actual backyard, which living in the city…we don’t. We kept things casual with a (delicious) Mexican buffet and DIY Champagne bar, and added in a little bit of a vintage feeling with lots of milk glass and colorful local flowers.
I loved so many things about our wedding day, but especially the playlist we painstakingly put together for our favors (the playlist was burned on CDs made to look like records, and we designed and sewed special sleeves for them). I knew that we would love listening to it even after the wedding day, but it’s been a wonderful surprise to travel around this year and find it playing in the cars and ipods of friends and family! It’s a wonderful way to remember the spirit of the day and how lovely it was to have so many people we care about it one place.
Meghan’s advice to other DC-area couples:
Before you do any planning, decide the top three things you care about for your wedding and write them down – and keep going back to that once things get crazy! It’s so easy to lose sight of what your wedding is really about in the stress (and fun) of planning, so having that reminder helps. Stay flexible, do what makes you truly happy, and remember that the wedding is just one day to celebrate kicking off the rest of your life – don’t lose perspective! Oh and if you can afford it, hire a planner – even just for the month of. You won’t regret it.
