Oh the elephant motifs in this wedding just kill me! Custom elephant chalkboards and cake toppers? A perfect symbol to carry through Jenna and Nishant’s reception from Hartleigh Jane Photography (Did you miss their multicultural wedding ceremony?), which is made even more stunning with the boldest of colors and the most unique table runners I have ever seen. The groom also took the stage for a special performance with his college accapella group! I know, I wish I was invited to this wedding too…
From Jenna: The designs for the place cards, the table numbers and the cake were Indian-inspired. We also played a few Bollywood songs at the reception and placed a Ganesh statute outside the reception tent. We purchased a number of handmade items from etsy.com, such as elephant shaped chalkboards, elephant cake toppers, and a handmade sign.
The cake toppers were my favorite detail. They were custom-made from Etsy and they served as the inspiration for our elephant motif.
Nishant sang with his acapella group from college, the Brown Derbies, during the reception. He also performed a song on his own. After the wedding we went to the hotel where most of the guests were staying and hung out until the wee hours of the morning. This was great because we were able to spend quality time with many of our guests, something we weren’t able to do within the time limits of the wedding.
Jenna’s advice to other DC-area couples:
If you have a lot of out of town guests, try to provide a venue that is easy to reach from multiple area airports. DC can be really expensive – it is so important to stick to your budget, but learn to be flexible within it. Determine the aspects of your wedding you care the most about, and spend the most time and money on those vendors. Try to lower costs on the rest. Invest in a day-of wedding planner at minimum. It was essential.
