Kate and Nick were lucky to have a whole brood of family and friends behind them, helping them handcraft just about every detail for their Virginia wedding day, captured by Rob Garland Photographers. They knew they wanted an outdoor fall wedding, and with their team behind them, they brought out the beauty of Veritas Vineyard in October. Their arbor was crafted from local cedar, and personalized everything, down to Nick’s embroidered shirt sleeves. Just wait for the reception later this morning! All in all, this wedding has me pretty excited that autumn is just around the corner.
From Kate: We immediately knew that we wanted to be married outside with the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains in autumn, our favorite time of year. This inspired everything from our wide array of fall flowers and colors to the overall feeling of a minimalistic elegance, focusing on the natural beauty around us rather than lots of decorations or a very specific theme.
There were a few wedding attire details that were truly special to us. Nick’s shirt cuffs were embroidered; one sleeve read Kate and the other Nick. Our flower girl wore my mother’s vintage First Communion dress. I wore wax flowers in my hair taken from my grandmother and mother’s wedding veil.
Of all the memorable moments on our wedding day, the standouts were both from our ceremony. Having my brother play “Something” by George Harrison on guitar as both of my parents walked me down the aisle, looking at my soon-to-be husband, is a feeling I will never forget. And although Nick and I had planned the ceremony and written our vows, saying them aloud to each other witnessed by family and friends was pretty powerful.
Because our officiant was a friend, she spoke about us personally and contributed an extra amount of love to the ceremony.
