We got in the autumn mood with their outdoor wedding ceremony and now it’s time for felted acorn favors, calligraphed place cards and table numbers from Rifle Paper Co. that double as menus. Oh, I could go on! But instead take a peek into this elegant, handcrafted reception for yourself and don’t miss the idyllic mix of fall details and meaningful dedications.

Fall Wedding Meridian House

From Diana: Our escort board may be one of my most favorite wedding details. We ordered the cards with attached felted acorns from FairyFolk and had Plurabelle help us with the calligraphy. The oak tree cut outs matched perfectly with the guest tree and our invitations and table menus.

Our priorities were good food, lots of dancing, and lots of good conversation! I love natural looking floral arrangements and Sidra Forman helped create the exact look that we were going for. She created these amazing boughs that draped over each of the fireplaces at the Meridian House made with magnolia leaves and berries. We also were able to incorporate some of our favorite food items into the menu including crab bisque (an ode to our Easter Shore engagement spot-St. Michael’s Maryland) and Turkish Delight (a treat we enjoyed while traveling in Turkey together).

We named our signature drink after our mini long-haired dachshund, Mabel. We even had bone-shaped apple cutouts floating on tops of each of the drinks!

Diana’s advice to other DC-area couples:

Hire a day of coordinator and make sure to meet with her/him several times beforehand to go over the schedule of the day and the venue lay out so that you are stress free on the day of! Be persistent (but not overly pushy)! We really wanted Maggie Austin to make our wedding cake and she was booked upon initial inquiry. We sent follow-up emails to see if she had any openings and asked to be put on a waiting list- sure enough her schedule shifted and she was able to fit us in. I also searched Etsy endlessly to find items for our escort card board, hotel welcome bags, and guest tree. If you can’t find a specific item that you are looking for email vendors and ask if they can accommodate your request. I had such great experiences working with folks on Etsy! And lastly, always go with your gut and work with folks that give you a good vibe and that you feel understand the vision that you are working towards.
