After their garden wedding ceremony in downtown Baltimore, and a quick stop at the bar where they met, Aubrey and Matt headed to their reception at the B&O American Brasserie. The building was another place of great significance to the couple. I love the dramatic, moody feel of the dim lit dinner space and mercury glass candles. Aubrey (and Rebecca of Blue Canary Events, actually!) is from Pittsburgh and brought a great tradition from her hometown, south: a wedding cookie bar. Now that is a tradition that I think our local area needs to learn from!
Our reception was at the B&O American Brasserie, which is housed in the old B&O Railroad headquarters, a company and building that has significance for both of our families. Matt hand-carved decorative plates for our cookie table (a fantastic tradition from my home town of Pittsburgh!) and We hand painted the cake toppers to match our wedding day outfits.
A few of my favorite memories from the reception are dancing with my dad and singing along to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable,” everyone dancing well into the night at the reception (silly wigs and feather boas from the photo booth and all) – including our pastor and all of the wait staff at the B&O!
Aubrey’s advice to other DC-area couples:
Keep everything as personal and playful as possible…really, in the end that’s what you remember the most, and most fondly (and guests definitely notice). And when doing the seating charts, wine helps.
