Calling all maids of honor and bridesmaids! Today is the day to leave the worrying behind as you get ready to host a bridal shower. For me, attending bachelorette parties and bridal showers are my favorite, because girls-only celebrations can be the loveliest highlight of wedding season. If you’re looking for ideas for bridal showers that are creative and around the DC-area, I’ve gathered a few ideas that I think you and, most importantly, the bride-to-be will enjoy!
Afternoon High Tea
My cup runneth over with love for “grown-up” tea parties – ultra feminine affairs that are a lovely daytime occasion. Fancy the idea of showering the bride English-style? For an afternoon tea complete with harpist music, organic teas, finger sandwiches, and pastries can be found at Peacock Alley at The Willard. If the bride-to-be needs to be treated princess style, the afternoon tea menu at Villa Crawford of Keswick Hall at Monticello boasts a “royal” tea menu, traditional English breakfast and more! If you want to keep it simple, just about any country club in the area can help you host the perfect bridal shower tea par-tay!
The solution for wedding jitters and planning stress is yoga, of course! A fun and relaxing class with bridesmaids, friends and family can be scheduled with private classes at Shining Lotus Yoga of Woodbridge or Charm City Yoga in Baltimore.
Kiss your bad hair days goodbye, ladies! The Dry Bar (coming this September to Georgetown and Bethesda!) is unlike any salon you’ve been to— no cuts or color, just fabulous blowouts. With a “menu” offering everything from a sleek and smooth Manhattan to a messy, beach-y Mai Tai, a blowout bridal shower (with champagne, of course!) can start your party off, or be the main event!
Make no mistake! Bridal showers don’t need to be stuffy, semi-formal affairs. For the bride-to-be who is a die-hard sports fan (specifically the Orioles!) the Miller Lite Flite Deck at Oriole Park at Camden Yards is the perfect perch for groups of up to 24 fans. Not only will you be seated along the Club Level, but your ticket price also includes food and drink—score! You can also check out some of the minor league baseball teams in the area like the Bowie Baysox and the Hagerstown Suns. The teams play often and the atmosphere is casual. Hot dogs and beer!
Looking for another fun, unique option to celebrate a sporty gal? Check out H Street Country Club for indoor mini-golf and margaritas for an incredible afternoon of fun and competition!
Brunch is where French toast and mimosas (yummy!) meet for a lovely and laid-back meal that’s easy on your pocketbook. Right in the heart of Old Town Alexandria is Morrison House is where you’ll find The Grille Restaurant, a sophisticated venue that offers a champagne Sunday brunch with everything from beignets to eggs Chesapeake for parties of up to 26 guests.
Naughty + Nice Lingerie
Forget kitchen appliances and home décor, lingerie is what the newlyweds will really want, especially for the upcoming honeymoon or wedding day undergarments. (Although, if you are looking for gear, might we suggest this kitchen spot in Georgetown!) This themed bridal shower isn’t for grandmas and mothers, but an intimate gathering with girlfriends. For stylish and lacey gifts, try Coup de Foudre Lingerie in the District, or Bra-La-La with locations throughout the DC-area.
Getaway on the Bay
The “Girlfriends Getaway package at the opulent Annapolis Inn boasts a day of pampering from manicures and pedicures to a “right from the Bay” seafood luncheon. Whether you arrange for a champagne floral tea or a night of sightseeing downtown Annapolis, a getaway on the Bay will certainly be a blissful night for a nautical queen.
Chocolate + Cocktails
Mmm, does anyone else have a serious sweet tooth like me? The chocolate lounge and boutique Co Co. Sala is the perfect for a chocolate-loving bride. Their evening of dessert (story of my life!) sounds too sweet to pass up. If you’re looking to celebrate like a Manhattanite, Serendipity III in Gorgetown is your best bet for romantic-comedy fan with an eye for opulence. (Note: Avoid ordering the Golden Opulence Sunday, ya know, the most expensive dessert in the world!)
