Calling all science geeks and history buffs, because today’s steampunk-inspired wedding will surely wow you! Steampunk combines industrial, science fiction and romantic (think Victorian/19th century period!) elements for a mechanical chic theme. Alison and Eric pulled it all together in a very colorful and happy way for their wedding in DC. Anne of A Trendy Wedding and Kelly of Capital Décor and Events helped to execute and incorporate the unique details for Alison and Eric’s steampunk-inspired wedding. David, owner of Zinnia Films produced their video in association with Love Life Images and lucky for you we have the video and pictures to share!

From Alison:  The steam punk concept just sort of evolved. Neither Eric nor I are hardcore steampunks, but we are both science/history geeks at heart and there was something really appealing about the notion of building a wedding around that concept.  We just chose things that we liked as we went (starting with the awesome invitations we got from Royal Steamline) and at some point, it became clear that we were choosing a lot of things that were “steampunk.”

Alison’s advice to DC-area couples: Hire a wedding planner if you can. I can’t overstate how instrumental she was in bringing this all together and I know she worked her tail off to make it all happen and run so seamlessly. Choose your battles.  For example, flowers weren’t a big deal for us, so we sort of turned that over to Capital Decor.  They did an amazing job and we didn’t have to spend days and hours trying to pick out the perfect petunias. If you’re going to splurge, splurge on photography and videography.  I love the photos and video from our wedding like I love no other inanimate objects. Remember that, ultimately, what you are planning is a big party. Yes, it is an important day, but I think the less you focus on the “ohmygodthisisthemostimportantdayofmylife” and it has to be perfect aspect, the more fun you will have planning and actually being at your wedding.

Who knew industrial and vintage could come together in such a beautiful way?! If you are in the market for a videographer for your wedding, be sure to check out the very talented David at Zinnia Films. You can also see more of Alison and Eric’s steampunk wedding on Love Life Images’s blog.
