Welcome back for part two of Kristen and Blane’s outdoor wedding from Douglas Pettway Photography. Check out their wedding eremony at their family’s home in Maryland if you missed, and then come back fall in love with the rustic burlap details (handmade, might I add!) and beautifully rich flowers of their reception.
From Kristen: The framed table numbers were made by hand using burlap and yarn to stitch the numbers. We designed the ceremony program on the computer and printed them ourselves. The place card board was made from a frame, some cork board and burlap. For me, putting together these small details was the most fun process of planning the wedding.
One of my favorite decor aspects of the wedding was the lighting in the tent. We bought the garden lights and strung them in the tent ourselves. It was quite challenging, and somewhat comical putting them up but in the end they created this soft warm glow in the tent that added so much character. I think for some people lighting is sort of an after thought, but I think it is so important. It really can create such a wonderful ambiance for the evening.
Kristen’s advice to other DC-area couples:
The best advice I could give is go with your instincts. Choose the vendors that speak to you. Just because a vendor is “the best,” doesn’t mean they are the best for you. Sometimes the new to the scene photographer or florist will really do a better job, and will be more willing to work with your budget. Also, enjoy the planning process and don’t take things too seriously. Your wedding day will go by so fast, so sometimes you just have to “stop and smell the roses.”
