When your father’s home is on the Maryland National Register for Historic Places, there’s no need to look any further for your wedding location in Maryland. Kristen knew that was the place she wanted to say “I do” to Blane and she embraced the beauty of the private estate during the fall season with a gorgeous outdoor wedding. Stunning purple and orange florals complemented rustic DIY details and Douglas Pettway captured it all. Even though summer has just begun, this wedding makes me long for fall. Be sure to come back check out their reception that followed this afternoon!

From Kristen: I would describe my wedding vision as “rustic elegance.” Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of having a fall wedding at my father and step-mother’s house, a historic manor home in Sharpsburg, MD. I wanted to keep the natural beauty of the property and the backdrop of the house the focus of the wedding. I wanted the flowers to be natural and tie in the rich colors of fall. From there everything sort of evolved. All of the little details were added here and there to create the overall theme of the wedding.

Our altar table was a rustic table from my house, the antique bible is a family heirloom of my step-dad and the candlesticks were a craft store find. My best friend and I searched the local flea market and found vintage mason jars and apple crates to complete the rustic details.

I loved every minute of our ceremony, but actually my favorite memory of our wedding day is taking pictures right after the ceremony. Our photographer whisked us away for a few minutes after the ceremony to take a few pictures of just my husband and I. It really was our first moments “alone” together as husband and wife. It was romantic and sweet and I love the pictures from that little photo shoot.
