We’ve moved from Katie and Mike’s church wedding ceremony in DC to their reception at the Hotel Monaco DC, as captured by Love Life Images! The colorful and eclectic florals continued, along with a nod to Mexican culture (a favorite of the newlyweds) and a whole lot of entertainment. With a full dance floor and an always-crowd-pleasing photo booth, it goes with out saying that Katie and Mike, and all their guests, had a blast!
From Katie: We love Mexican colors, food and art and were headed there for our honeymoon so we had margaritas handed out as our feature drink and a ‘Day of the Dead’ bride and groom cake topper. Props in the photo booth and a great DJ and playlist (along with full bar) kept things really fun – everyone was on the dance floor before the salads were even served.
Mike says his favorite moment was seeing me walk down the aisle, and we both agree our first dance is a favorite – we took a few dance lessons in Seattle and had a total blast. I’ll never forget the feeling of walking into the cocktail hour and having everyone cheer for us — our friends and family were so happy, present and supportive and that memory will stay with me forever.
Katie’s advice to other DC-area couples:
Don’t let anyone tell you “you’re already behind” when you are dress shopping nine months in advance or let vendors pressure you to book. Go with personal recommendations or vendors that you’ve read about (there are enough weddings in DC that a slew of vendors are tried and true and will meet your needs). The going rate for florists surprised me — be prepared or think of a creative alternative. Book the big stuff (venue/photographer/band or dj) then breath — enjoy looking for your dress and figuring out your bridal party then add the fun details that make the wedding you over time. Stop all planning 7 days prior to your wedding day, get a massage and enjoy the ride.
