If you loved the slightly nautical, slightly Syracuse inspired ceremony we featured this morning, you’re guaranteed to love part two of this waterfront wedding day from The Happy Couple Wedding Photography ! Sonja and Kevin continued their themes throughout their reception, asking guests to sign oars in lieu of a guestbook and allowing Otto to make a few more appearances. One of our favorite elements? The personal notes left at each guest’s place setting thanking them for being there, and being a part of the newlywed’s lives.

From Sonja:  We wanted our guests to know how much we appreciate their love and support, so we had notes at each place setting from the two of us. We didn’t tell our family about them until the last minute, and it was a small gesture that went a long way.

We definitely splurged on the venue. We could not have imaged a more perfect place for us than the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. It had the water views and outdoor space that we wanted for the ceremony and cocktail hour, the formal setting for the dinner, and the more casual venue for dancing.

Keeping with the Chesapeake Bay theme, we had our guests sign two oars instead of a guest book. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, we decided to do offer four different kinds of ice-cream from an organic farm on the Eastern Shore. We coupled that with two different flavored cake pops with a white and orange candy coating. To pay tribute to Syracuse and our close group of friends, we had the DJ play the same music that was always on during happy hour at our favorite bar.

Sonja’s advice to other DC-area couples:

As one of my bridesmaids said to my dad right before we walked down the aisle – be in the moment. The day goes by so quickly, so try your best to take in very little part of it.
