We are so excited to share the Upon A Star contest—a collaboration between Jorge Manuel Weddings and Hitched Salon in Georgetown—where one lucky bride will win a custom, couture gown known as Eternal Flame (named for the Bangles’ song that Hitched owners Carin and Julia met over!) designed just for this competition as well as a one night stay at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C.
“In the essence of my experiences with bride’s today, I too have seen how brides feel disappointed when that ‘one’ gown is out of their reach. And since this is an industry that has given me the chance to do what I love to do, I felt I could somehow give back,” said wedding gown designer Jorge Manuel.

Hitched owners Julia and Carin, along with the rest of the Hitched team, were also a part of the creative process! “He sent us sketches for a couple of gowns and we gave him feedback on shape, materials, etc. Jorge has tons of energy, enthusiasm and excitement for his gowns!” said Carin and Julia. “It was fun to hear him talk about his vision for each gown that he came up with, then watch him draw it, and ultimately turn it into the dress for the contest. He really cares so much for each Jorge Manuel bride.”
Jorge Manuel’s custom Eternal Flame wedding beauty (a design valued at $4,730) was recently unveiled at the Hitched Salon Blogger’s Brunch—pastries and brunch served by Design Cuisine, floral design by Flowers by Sidra and custom escort cards and table numbers by Meant to Be Calligraphy—where a preview of the contest was shared among local wedding professionals and writers. I was at the brunch and let me tell you, this dress is gorgeous!
“The Eternal Flame is a modern meets old-world gown for the chic bride who truly wants to be seen up-to-date with today’s fashion, but remaining timeless and ethereal. The finish product is a gorgeous silk satin, silk taffeta and beaded lace dream that took almost 3 months to make. The entire creative process from think up to creation took almost 90 days,” Manuel added.
To enter the Upon A Star contest, visit the Jorge Manuel Weddings website to fill out an application in addition to composing an essay of 600-words including you and your fiancee’s love story, your wedding plans, and why the contest gown would be a perfect fit for you! The deadline for entries is March 17, 2012. Six finalists will be selected and will be ultimately selected by a public vote and a judge of panels. The winner will be announced on May 18, 2012. Now what are you waiting for? Get started with your entry– good luck!
