Cassandra and Ricardo’s wedding from Bellwether Events and Kurstin Roe Photography took place at the beautiful Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia. Cassandra and Janice selected a fun and modern color palette of raspberry pink and black, which was complemented by beautiful floral arrangements in shades of pink, green, and white from Growing Wild Floral Design. The traditional wedding also incorporated unique and personal elements, from Portuguese cocktails to honor Ricardo’s heritage and a bagpiper during the Catholic mass wedding ceremony!
From Cassandra: We wanted a traditional Catholic church ceremony, followed by an outdoor wedding surrounded by flowers and beautiful gardens. We incorporated elements to honor Ricardo’s Portuguese heritage, from Port wine to Portuguese rolls to Portuguese music.
From Janice of Bellwether Events: Ricardo and Cassandra were married in the Virginia suburbs at Saint Timothy’s Catholic Church. After mass (where we featured a bagpiper – the only request from Cassandra’s dad!) guests were shuttled to Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg for cocktails, dinner, and dancing.
Upon arrival at the Oatlands, the guests picked up their escort card from a moss covered table and signed the guest book: a photo book of Italy, where the couple would later be honeymooning. As the guests entered the exquisitely manicured gardens, they were offered the Portuguese Daisy Cocktail (a nod to Ricardo’s Portuguese heritage), as well as passed hors d’oeuvres. During this time, the wedding party and the parents of the bride enjoyed taking portraits using a giant trampoline brought in by photographer Kurstin Roe.
The dinner tables were a mix of rounds and a long Kings table for the wedding party. The round tables had high and low centerpieces, and the Kings table featured an array of green flowers interspersed with poofs of white hydrangea. The raspberry silk linens were complimented by gold chivaris, solid white china, black napkins, topped with a raspberry colored spray rose.
The tent also featured a lounge area that displayed white couches, black and white polka dot pillows, and raspberry flower bouquets on the tables. Guests that needed to give their feet a rest from dancing thoroughly enjoyed this area to relax.
From Cassandra: I loved everything! I can’t even pick one detail – from the flowers to the food, music, scene, tent, lighting, dancing – it was all amazing. My favorite memory was the dance with my Dad, it was fun and not your typical father-daughter dance! Everyone said they loved it.
After inviting the guests to the tent for dinner, the wedding party was introduced, a blessing was said and Cassandra’s dad offered his welcome remarks, bringing a smile to everyone’s face. There was a two course plated meal, followed by a port tasting, cake and champagne, a surprise (for Ricardo) ice cream bar, cordials with coffee and giant chocolate chip cookies to send guests on their way at the end of the night.
