Happy Monday everyone! We’re starting the week off with an uber-modern wedding at an art gallery in Washington, DC. Kyle and John worked with Sasha Nel from RSVP Event Planning to create an all-white wedding design inspired by The Shore Club in Miami, complete with long drapes, cabanas, and a cocktail-style reception in lieu of a formal dinner. Garret Hubbard Wedding Storyteller captured the day from beginning to end, starting as Kyle got ready at the W Hotel. Wait until you see her amazing wedding dress – so gorgeous!
From Kyle: John and I wanted to recreate the design of The Shore Club in Miami where we got engaged… white drapes and white lounge furniture with lanterns scattered throughout. The biggest compliment we received were from our Miami friends saying the felt like they were back home.
We took the advice of Wendy at Weswen Design and decided to do first look photos. We got ready at the W Hotel and my big reveal was down in the lobby when I stepped off the elevator. I felt like a star. Everyone at the hotel pulled out their cameras and phones and started snapping pictures. Looking back and seeing how intimate those first few moments were bring back a lot of emotion… I can still hear John saying “wow” over and over. Seeing each other calmed our nerves (and I had a ton… I was borderline bridezilla on the day of!) and allowed us to be relaxed for the rest of the day.
We had two sets of wedding vows. The first had a nautical theme since we are avid boaters and then the true vows were more traditional. Our nautical vows had everyone laughing… we barely kept our composure.
From Sasha of RSVP Event Planning: Kyle and John spend a lot of time in Florida and were inspired by the Shore Club in Miami, which has a very modern look – lots of white, clean lines, and cabanas. We worked with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and AFR Event Furnishings to create a sophisticated urban feel with a lot of cabanas, lounge furniture, and lantern lighting, using an all white color palette. The look was very complimentary to the space at LongView Gallery.
From Kyle: We wanted to create an environment where our guests could mix and mingle so we opted to do a cocktail reception rather than a sit down meal.
Our biggest advice is to not get sucked into following the standards of a traditional wedding and create a day that fits who you are as a couple. A lot of recent brides gave me heartache over my maids not matching (the only reason the guys matched is because I didn’t trust they could tie their shoes), the decision not to have flowers or a cake cutting – but in the end I am so happy I stuck to my guns. Thinking outside the box can be a HUGE challenge and nerve wracking but it is completely worth it in the end!
