We’re starting the week off with an incredibly romantic wedding in Maryland from Greg Gibson Photography and Rex and Regina Events. Dominique and Tony had a festive early fall wedding inspired by excellent food and Dominique’s Greek heritage at Strong Mansion in Maryland. Tony is a local chef – so of course the culinary aspects of the wedding were incredible, from a charcuterie spread and signature cocktail to an impressive dessert table. Gorgeous linens and stunning flowers complemented the mansion’s garden setting. Absolutely beautiful!
From Dominique: We both wanted our wedding to be very romantic and elegant, not too formal but with a vintage feeling. When we decided on Strong Mansion as our venue things began to fall into place. The gardens and historic mansion were the perfect backdrop for our vision and things began to fall into place from there.
Our main priorities were the food, the music, and the photography. We decided that it was very important for us to invest in these three areas because we really wanted all of our guests to have an amazing time and we wanted to make sure all of the great memories from the day were captured in a style that reflected who we are as a couple.
Since my husband is a chef, many of the personal touches that were important to us came through in the food and beverages we chose for our reception. It was important for both of us that everything tasted great and that the ingredients were in season.
We incorporated my Greek heritage into the reception with traditional dancing, delicious Greek pastries that were made by a friend of my family, sprigs of olive branches incorporated into the floral decor, and plenty of Ouzo for all of our guests.
There are so many memories to choose from but I have to say that my favorite memory from the day was our first dance to our song, Wonderwall by Oasis. We were debating choosing another song to dance to since it’s a little fast but I am so happy we decided not to change our selection. That song has held a lot of meaning for us throughout our relationship and it was such an amazing moment dancing to it with him as my husband.
One of the most memorable moments for me was seeing my father dance to a traditional Greek song from the island where my family is from. It was also very important for us to recognize our grandparents that were not able to be with us on our special day. We had a moment of remembrance for them as a part of our ceremony and we put pictures of them throughout the ballroom of the mansion.
One of my favorite details was a mix CD favor that I made for each guest. We gave the DJ an extensive spreadsheet with all of the music we wanted played throughout the day and we decided that it would be nice for guests to have the musical memories as a gift from us. The mix included many of the classic love songs we played during the cocktail reception and dinner.
Dominique’s advice for other DC-area brides and grooms:
Choosing a venue was tough. When I started looking though local photographer portfolios online, I realized it was a good way to discover different venues. It also gave me an alternative perspective of how the venue photographs that might not be on their website. I would recommend starting your search this way! I also realized that its very important to stay organized. Since we made almost all of the planning decisions ourselves, it was important to follow-up with vendors and keep all materials organized. When it came time for our wedding planner Teresa to take over, I had almost everything in one place and ready to go so it was a lot easier as we got closer to the date, especially with family and friends in town from overseas.
