Catherine and John aren’t even high school sweethearts – they’re middle school sweethearts!  After a lengthy courtship, Catherine and John were married in Virginia early August at Stevenson Ridge just outside of Fredericksburg, Virginia, captured by Carley Rehberg Photography.  Catherine and John mixed DIY touches with beautiful elegant details, including gorgeous mismatched gray bridesmaids dresses and heirloom jewelry.  I’m also completely in love with Catherine’s shoes – check out those beauties!

From photographer Carley Rehberg: Catherine and John have been dating since middle school and finally tied the knot on a beautiful day in early August.  With a touch of DIY and a whole lot of elegance, Catherine and John had a spectacular wedding.  All of the centerpieces were completely done by the bride’s mother.  They collected clear and blue mason jars and various vases to arranged all the flowers themselves.  They added the table numbers by using homemade mini chalkboards.  All the place settings featured different pieces of china.  The bridesmaids wore gorgeous gray gowns, all different.  The bride’s bouquet featured a family heirloom, her great grandmother’s cameo broach.  An antique mirrored window served as an escort card guide for guests.  Stevenson Ridge provided the perfect rustic backdrop for their big day!

From Catherine: John and I wanted our wedding to be laid back and fun but still have a touch of old Virginia class and tradition. We definitely incorporated several personal touches and traditions into our wedding.  I had a family heirloom brooch on my bouquet and wore pearls from my mother-in-law.

The main priorities for our wedding were the food and decor.  The food needed to be something we would enjoy any other day, such as pulled pork sandwiches.  We splurged on the details – the 140 types of jars, vases, milk bottles, and crystal we collected throughout our engagement.

The flowers were arranged by my mother and a few family friends.  Our guest table centerpieces were filled with peachy pink roses, blue hydrangeas, and yellow billy balls.

My favorite memory of my wedding day was being able to celebrate and dance with all of our close friends and family.  Also, my sister, Elizabeth who was also my maid of honor, gave a heartfelt speech that I’ll always remember.

Catherine’s advice for other DC-area couples:  Enjoy the wedding planning process as much as you can.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends; chances are, they are excited and happy to help.
